UltraDMA
The Intel® T440BX (NL440BX) server board supports the UltraDMA hard drive protocol. However, Intel recommends using SCSI
hard drives for server systems rather than IDE drives.
RAID Solutions
An add-in RAID controller card can be integrated into any of the available expansion slots to incorporate hardware RAID.
When implementing this type of hardware RAID solution, PCI slot one should be avoided as the Symbios SCSI controller
shares the PCI interrupt with PCI slot one. Another RAID option is available through some operating systems, which allow
a software RAID implementation using either the on-board SCSI or IDE controllers.
One low-cost RAID solution uses an AMI Mega RAID Express* 762 add-in PCI RAID controller card. This PCI add-in card uses an
Intel® i960® microprocessor and the on-board Symbios SCSI controller to control the array of drives. Details
can be found in the T440BX (NL440BX) Technical Product Specification or the T440BX (NL440BX) Server Board Product Guide.
Hot Swap Capabilities
The T440BX (NL440BX) board can be integrated into a variety of chassis sub-systems that provide various levels of hot-swap
capabilities. There is nothing designed into the board that precludes or enhances the use of hot-swap devices in server
systems built with T440BX (NL440BX) boards.
LVDS (Ultra-2 SCSI)
The T440BX (NL440BX) server board does not support LVDS. However, LVDS is backward compatible with Ultra-SCSI. Therefore,
LVDS drives will work with the integrated Symbios SCSI controller, but only in the Ultra Mode (which is limited to 40 MB/sec).
Additionally, add-in LVDS controllers and/or RAID controllers can be used if LVDS is a requirement.
