Power Supply Requirements

Failure to use the appropriate power supply (below) with Intel® 945G and 945P Express Chipset-based Intel Desktop Boards and/or not connecting the 12 V (2x2) power connector to the desktop board may result in damage to the board, or the system may not function properly.

Platform Compatibility Guide Power Supply Requirements
05B 12V2 rating of 16 A continuous and 19 A peak current for 10mS
05A 12V2 rating of 13 A continuous and 16.5 A peak current for 10mS
04B or 04A ATX12V (version 2.0 or greater) compliant Power Supply
Major changes include:
  • 2x10 (20-pin) main power connector is now 2x12 (24-pin).
  • Serial ATA (SATA) connectors are now required to support SATA hard drives.

Connecting 2x12 power supply cables

Use of a power supply providing a 2x12 power connector is recommended.  The figure below shows the location of the power connectors for a 2x12 power supply.

  1. Connect the 12 V processor core voltage power supply cable to the 2x2 connector.
  2. Connect the main 2x12 power supply cable to the 2x12 connector.
