Tested Memory
Memory testing has been performed under the following categories:

Basic Self Tested Memory
Intel provides the Basic test procedures and test software to memory manufacturers to perform testing on their own products. These products are then listed on the manufacturer's own website. Use the Basic Self Tested Memory links to visit their sites to obtain information on their products.

Intel Internal Tested Memory
Intel's has a limited amount of memory tested for the desktop board. These part numbers may not be readily available throughout the product life cycle.

System Memory Features

Note:To be compliant with applicable Intel® SDRAM memory specifications, the D810E2CB board should be populated with DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure. If your memory modules do not support SPD, the BIOS will attempt to configure the memory controller for normal operation; however, the DIMMs may not function at their optimum speed.

Caution:Because the main system memory is also used as video memory, the board requires 100 MHz SDRAM DIMMs even though the processor's system bus speed can be 66 MHz, 100 MHz, or 133 MHz. It is highly recommended that SPD DIMMs be used, since this allows the BIOS to read the SPD data and program the chipset to accurately configure memory settings for optimum performance. If non-SPD memory is installed, the BIOS will attempt to correctly configure the memory settings, but performance and reliability may be impacted.

The D810E2CB board has two DIMM sockets. The minimum total system memory size is 64 MB and the maximum total system memory size is 512 MB. (The BIOS will not initialize installed memory greater than 512MB, and will display a message stating this fact during boot). The BIOS automatically detects memory type, size, and speed. Memory can be installed in one or both sockets. Memory size can vary between sockets.

The D810E2CB board supports the following memory features:
  • 3.3 V, 168-pin DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • 100 MHz SDRAM only
  • Serial Presence Detect (SPD) or non-SPD memory (BIOS recovery requires SPD DIMMs)
  • Non-ECC (64-bit) and ECC (72-bit) DIMMs (ECC DIMMs will operate in non-ECC mode only)
  • Unbuffered single- or double-sided DIMMs
  • Suspend-to-RAM support

1 If the number of SDRAM devices is greater than nine, the DIMM will be double sided.
2 Front side population / back side population indicated for SDRAM density and SDRAM organization.

NOTE: If more than four rows of 133 MHz SDRAM are populated, the BIOS will initialize installed memory up to 512 MB at 100 MHz.

When installing memory, note the following:
  • Non-SPD DIMMs will always revert to a 100 MHz with 3-3-3 timing SDRAM bus.
  • Mixing Non-SPD DIMMs with SPD DIMMs will always revert to a 100 MHz with 3-3-3 timing SDRAM bus.
  • The BIOS will not initialize installed memory above 512 MB. At boot, the BIOS displays a message indicating that any installed memory above 512 MB has not been initialized.
  • Mixed memory speed configurations (133 and 100 MHz) will default to 100 MHz.
  • 133 MHz SDRAM operation requires a 133 MHz system bus frequency processor.
  • The board should be populated with no more than four rows of 133 MHz SDRAM (two double-sided or one double-sided plus two single-sided DIMMs).
  • 100 MHz SDRAM may be populated with six rows of SDRAM (three double-sided DIMMs).

All memory components and DIMMs used with the D810E2CB desktop board must comply with the PC SDRAM Unbuffered DIMM Specification. You can access this document through the Internet at: http://www.intel.com/technology/memory/index.htm
