Network Manager normally polls (performs a status check on) every node in the network at specified intervals. It changes the color of nodes, networks, and network drop cables (for multi-drop networks), based on the poll results. Colors for nodes on a network map are:
- Yellow-node status variable is down
- Green-node is responding to SNMP
- Red-several node polls failed
Network drops on the map are also colored. Network colors are:
- Blue-the port is up
- Black-no information about port (initial state)
- Red-the port is down
Manually polling a node
You can manually force Network Manager to immediately send a poll to a node. This is useful for testing the status of a node without having to wait for the next poll interval.
- Select a node.
- From the Manage menu, choose SNMP Poll to poll the node.
A message is displayed, indicating that the node is responding. If there is no response, no dialog appears for several seconds.
