TrendView is part of the Network Manager Long-Term Statistics subsystem. Use the TrendView application (GRAPH.EXE) to import and graph history information saved by Trend Watch. TrendView is started in one of the following ways:
- In Network Manager, choose Node History from the Edit menu. Then select a MIB variables and click View. TrendView imports data for the selected table.
- In Trend Watch, choose Export from the History menu, select MIB variables, and click the View button. TrendView imports data for the selected variables.
TrendView can save imported data in a graph file that can be quickly loaded later. A graph can display up to twelve variables.
The TrendView window has two views and an explanatory legend:
Local View
The main displayed image is a local view of part of the imported data. This view can be scrolled horizontally in any of the graph, pie, and chart formats. The different labeling used for the three available formats is described in the View menu options section.
Variable Legend
Beneath or to the right of the local view is a variable legend. Each legend item has a colored line which is the same as the displayed graph line, pie segment, or bar, and the SNMP variable name, with instance number. If all variables are for the same node, the node name is displayed at the top of the local view. Otherwise the node name is displayed in the legend before each variable. If the same variable is used for different node names, the variable name is displayed at the top of the local view, and the legend contains node names only.
Global View
The global view is displayed in a thin window beneath the local view. This view shows a graph for all of the imported data. A small white bar is displayed on top of this view. The white bar shows what section of the global view is currently displayed in the local view. The white bar moves when you scroll the local view, and it expands or contracts when you change the zoom or interval options.
File menu
Open
Opens a saved graph file. Currently imported variables are discarded. The saved graph file is displayed in the same state as it was when saved. A dialog box prompts for the file name.
Save
Save a previously opened graph file. The current viewing options are saved in the graph file.
Save As
Saves the view to a new graph file. A dialog box prompts for the new file name. The current viewing options are saved in the graph file.
Import
Reads saved history data into TrendView. The Import Variable dialog box shows the available variables. Each entry in the list shows the node name, table name and instance, and the variable name. Select one or more variables with the mouse, or use the Select All button to select all variables.
Filter
The Filter button specifies a date and time range for import. A dialog box is displayed to get the filter options. Once the filter options are selected, use the Import button to import the data. TrendView will display the first twelve variables in it. You can use the Edit menu commands to select different variables to display from the set of imported variables.
Exit
Stops displaying history data and exits TrendView, prompting you to save the graph.
Edit menu
Edit Variables
Selects variables to display and line options for each variable. The Edit Variables dialog box is displayed.
There is a set of options for each displayed variable. Use the On check boxes to enable or disable display of a variable. Use the Line list box to select the graph line thickness.
Each large button has a node name and variable name as the button text. Click the button to show a list of imported variables and select a different variable to display.
Delete Variables
Removes data associated with one or more variables from the imported data. The Delete Variable dialog box displays a list of imported variables. Select one or more lines and click Delete button. Once a variable is deleted it can no longer be selected for display in the graph. However, you can import the variable again by choosing Import from the File menu.
View menu
Zoom
In Graph view, sets the length of time allotted to a single pixel for a graph, and sets the vertical scaling. A dialog box is displayed. Enter the length of time allocated to a single pixel in the Zoom text box, and select the units from the Seconds, Minutes, Hours, or Days options. Select the vertical axis scaling as per second, minute, hour, or day, from the Calculate Values options.
In the Pie and Chart view, sets the length of time covered by the pie or chart. A dialog box prompts for the time interval. The interval is shown as "Per Amount" (for example, Per Sec, Per 10 Mins).
Update Graph
Updates the view with any additional values that have been saved by Trend Watch since you started TrendView.
Legend
Shows or hides the variable legend.
Logarithmic
Displays the graph and bar vertical axis as a logarithmic scale. This is useful when a variable has a very wide range of values.
Graph View
Displays the selected variables as a relative graph. The vertical axis shows the value of the variable values. The horizontal axis shows the date and time.
Pie View
Displays the selected variables as a cumulative pie. The pie is labeled with percentages. The start and end time for the pie is shown in the top right corner of the window.
Chart View
Displays the selected variables as a cumulative Bar chart. The Bar chart is labeled with total values. The start and end time for the Bar chart is shown in the top right corner of the window.
