Community strings are like passwords that set user privileges for each node. Click the Community button in the Node Properties dialog box to change the SNMP community strings that Network Manager uses to request information from the selected network device.
The community strings must match the strings defined in the actual hub, switch, or other device. Otherwise you can't manage the device. Most manageable devices either use the default community strings or have a console program that lets you change them.
The default community strings for the Express 100BASE-TX Stackable and Switching Hubs are:
PUBLIC - read only rights
PRIVATE - read and write rights
