LANDesk* Network Manager
Installing Network Manager

  1. Put the LANDesk* Network Manager CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. (If you have Windows 95*, setup begins automatically with some CD-ROM drives.)

  2. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File Menu. In Windows* 95, choose Run from the Start menu.

  3. Type d:\setup.exe E in the Run dialog box. (You can substitute d with your CD-ROM drive.) Network Manager setup begins. Click Continue to start the installation.

  4. Enter your user name, company name and Network Manager serial number in the Registration dialog box and click Continue. (The serial number is printed on the CD-ROM case.) Verify this information and click Yes.

  5. Choose the LANDesk* Network Manager installation and follow the instructions on the screen. This installs Network Manager and Intel device support.

  6. When you have finished installing, a program group is created and you have the option to view the release notes.

Installing non-Intel vendor support

When you close the release notes or if you choose not to read them, the Type of Installation dialog box is displayed again.

  1. Click Vendor Installation to install support for your other devices. This support gives you options for managing non-Intel devices on the network.

A dialog box asks you to insert disk 1. This is for installing vendor support if you later add a new device not supported with the drivers included in this installation. For now, skip this step and click OK. Then follow the instructions on the screen.

  2. Select the devices you use on your network by holding down c and clicking the vendor names. Then click OK. The device information for the vendors you chose is installed.

  3. Exit the setup program.

Recompiling the MIB database

When you start Network Manager the first time, you are prompted to recompile the MIB database. Click Yes. This is necessary to change SNMP device information from within Network Manager. When the MIB database has recompiled, a notification dialog box is displayed. Click OK.

Setting login security

When you start Network Manager, the User Login dialog box is displayed. The default user is "admin" and no password. Network Manager includes multiuser, multilevel login.

From the Config menu choose User List.

In the User List dialog box, you can add and remove users, and change user names, privileges, and passwords. Each user can have one of three permission levels: Supervisor, Operator, or Observer.

Login security levels

Level Restrictions
Supervisor Full access. Default for "admin" user name.
Operator Can open a map but not change it. Can change device configurations. Cannot change Network Manager configuration.
Observer Can only view map nodes and device viewers. Cannot open, close, or edit a map. Cannot set devices, edit user options, or exit the application. Cannot change Network Manager configuration.
