Intel® InBusiness™ Storage Station
Default and Hidden Shares

Default shares
The default share is \\StorageStation\Vol 1\Public1, with Read/Write access set for the AnyOne group. When you use the Storage Station Installation CD to run Set Up PC on an individual computer, it maps a network drive to this share. If your Storage Station has two hard drives, there is a second default share at \\StorageStation\Vol 2\Public2.

Hidden shares
The Storage Station has a hidden share that is accessible only to the Storage Station administrator and members of the Backup Operators group. The hidden share lets you (as the administrator) access all other folders and files on the drive. Hidden shares are not visible to other users through Network Neighborhood. The share is located at the root of Vol 1 and is named Vol1$. If your Storage Station has two hard drives, it has a second hidden share at the root of Vol 2 named Vol2$. The best way to access a hidden share is to map a network drive to it.

When you add a new user account, you can give the user a private share folder on the Storage Station. When you specify a private share folder, the Storage Station creates that folder and automatically limits access to just that user. Only the user and the Storage Station administrator can access that folder.

Using private folders is an easy way to give each user a personal storage area for storing and backing up files. Each user you create under the Manage user menu, can have a share that is private to the user.
