The Intel® InBusiness™ Internet Station is pre-configured for installation on a network that is not set up for TCP/IP. It uses a range of private IP addresses from 192.168.42.1 to 192.168.42.127, with the address of the Internet Station preset to 192.168.42.254.
If you have already set up the TCP/IP protocol on your network, you can customize the Internet Station to fit your existing IP policy.
Caution: You should not change these settings unless you are using the Internet Station on a network that is already set up for TCP/IP. If the changes you make are not valid for your network, you may be unable to access the Internet Station from your browser. If this happens, you must reset the Internet Station to its factory defaults. Before making changes, click the Backup button in the Backup Settings option in the Tools Menu.
To customize TCP/IP settings for an existing network
- From the Internet Station Home page, select Manage Network.
- Select the InstantIP option from the menu on the left
- Select DHCP.
- If the systems on your network already have IP addresses, uncheck the "Service DHCP requests from this network" check box. This will disable the DHCP function.
- From the Internet Station Home page, select Manage Network.
- Select Settings.
- In the IP address box, change the Internet Station's IP Address to an address that is valid for your network.
Note: For most connections to an ISP, you should leave the option "Enable Network Address Translation (Private Networking)" in the Router settings selected. This enables Network Address Translation (NAT) so the Internet Station translates local IP addresses to the IP address obtained from your ISP. To disable NAT, uncheck this option and click on Submit.
If NAT is disabled, then the Internet Station acts as a simple router and you must have public IP addresses for the Internet Station and each PC on your network.
- Click on Submit. The unit will then need to be rebooted for the changes to take effect.
To set up systems to use the Internet Station After you set up the Internet Station for your network, set up the systems on the network to use the Internet Station for Internet access.
If you have a DHCP server, modify the setup for the DHCP server so it uses the Internet Station IP address for DNS and the default Gateway.
If you aren't using DHCP, set each PC's TCP/IP properties to use the Internet Station's IP address for the DNS server and the default Gateway.
Changing the Internet Station domain name You can browse to the Internet Station home page using the name istation.my-station.com instead of typing an IP address. If you change the name, change the home page of your browser to the new name.
Note: If you disable the DNS server, your browser may give you error messages when the Internet Station connects to your ISP, and you must use the Internet Station IP address (192.168.42.254) to browse to its home page.
