Pixel shader and vertex shader support

The table below provides information on whether pixel and vertex shaders are supported by Intel® graphics controllers.

Pixel and vertex shader operations are used by some 3D applications, such as games, for rendering visual effects. Some graphics controllers provide hardware acceleration for pixel and vertex shading. Some 3D applications check whether the graphics controller hardware supports hardware acceleration for shader operations while some applications allow software-accelerated shader processing.

Hardware acceleration means shader processing occurs in the graphics chipset hardware and is oftentimes faster than software geometry processing where calculations are performed by the processor. In the table below, shader support (if supported) is hardware-accelerated unless it is marked with note 1 (or superscript 1). Note 1 indicates that the shader support is software-accelerated, not hardware-accelerated.

Intel provides an optimized graphics pipeline for shader processing that is included in Microsoft DirectX*. This can be used by games to provide software (SW) shader processing.
2 Shader Model 4.0 support requires using the latest version of the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver.
