Final Fantasy VIII game color distortion

Symptom(s):
Final Fantasy* VIII game backgrounds show bands of color rather than smooth color transitions when in Direct3D* mode.

Cause:
This is expected behavior for the Intel® 810 and 815 chipset family architecture. Because this game uses 8-bit palletized textures and alpha values (for transparency), the hardware is forced to use a lower quality texture format. Other graphics adapters do not show this issue because they either do not support palletized textures or they support higher bit-depth texture formats.

Solution:

Intel is not aware of a fix or workaround for this issue. Contact the game manufacturer* for further updates, patches, or support.
