The best place to get the latest graphics driver is from your computer manufacturer. Intel makes available generic versions of the Intel® graphics drivers for general purposes through the Intel® Download Center. However, your computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to the graphics driver software or software packaging that they provide for your computer. To avoid any potential installation incompatibilities on your computer, Intel recommends that you get the latest drivers provided by your computer manufacturer.
If you choose to install the generic Intel® drivers instead of your computer manufacturer's drivers, complete the following steps:
- Identify the Intel graphics controller.
You need this information to locate the right download for your computer. See Identifying your graphics controller.
- Access the Intel Download Center Web site.
- On the left side of the Intel Download Center Web site, use the product menu to select Graphics and then Desktop graphics controllers or Laptop graphics controllers .
- Continue to use the product menu to select the graphics controller or chipset that closely matches the name of your computer's Intel graphics controller or chipset. Some examples:
- If you have the 'Intel® G965 Express Chipset', select 'Intel® 82G965 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH)'.
- If you have the 'Mobile Intel® 965GM Express Chipset', select 'Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family'.
- If you have the 'Intel® 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family', select 'Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family'.
- Select your operating system and click Go!
- Locate the 'Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver' and click Download . There will be two drivers listed: an exe version and a zip version. Most customers should get the exe version which is easier to install.
- Click on the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver link and then select Run to begin the installation or Save the file to the computer. If you saved the file, double-click on the exe file to start the driver installation.
Note: If you receive the error: "driver being installed is not validated for this computer..." or a similar error, see the error solution document.
