Elevated CPU usage after DVI Hot Plug

Symptom(s):

After a DVI Hot Plug event of either plugging in or unplugging an DVI monitor, the CPU Usage (as reported by Microsoft* Windows Task Manager) will normally jump up to ~20% during detection and then settle back down, however using the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows XP* version PV14.25 or PV14.25.50 drivers in conjunction with some SDVO-DVI transmitters*, the CPU Usage stays high until the system is rebooted.

* SDVO-DVI transmitter list is not definitive.

Solution:

Updates for the Mobile Intel® 915GM chipset software are no longer available. The only known work-around is to use PV14.24 drivers, which do not exhibit the same behavior.

The Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows XP* version PV14.24 can be found here:

Operating System:
Windows XP Starter Edition*, Windows XP Professional*, Windows XP Home Edition*, Windows XP Media Center Edition*

This applies to:
Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family
Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family
