Configuring Onboard LAN in Linux*

Most newer Linux* distributions will recognize and properly configure the onboard LAN adapter during installation.

Common Intel ethernet modules include:

  • e100pro
  • eepro100
  • e100

Older onboard ethernet adapters typically use the e100 driver and most newer chipsets (e.g. Intel® 865 Chipset) use the eepro100 module for the onboard ethernet adapter.

Onboard gigabit ethernet uses the eepro1000 module.

To configure, su to root and run "modprobe eepro100" and then "ifconfig eth0" to verify that you received an IP address. Refer to your Linux distribution for additional information on using modprobe or ifconfig.
