Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family
Why does Device Manager show multiple monitors?

The Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family provides enhanced multi-monitor support by enumerating display devices on each graphics controller.

Why do we see more monitors in Windows* Device Manager?

  • When using the Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family, the number of monitors shown in Device Manager will be equal to 2n+1, where n is equal to the number of attached display devices.
  • The "2n" represents the enumeration of each display device on each graphics controller. The Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family will be shown in Device Manager as two graphics controllers. For more information, see: Why does Device Manager show two different graphics controllers?
  • The "+1" represents the enumeration of a multi-monitor clone display device off of the first graphics controller. This extra monitor entry will still be listed even if only one display device is physically connected to the computer.
