TechNote: Sporadic Wireless Disconnects Caused by Data Reordering Issue

What is the data reordering issue?
The data reordering issue causes intermittent WiFi connection loss and application hangs on Windows 8* platforms.

Resolving the issue
Check the current version available for your adapter and Operating System.
Find the link to the current Logiciel Intel® PROSet/Wireless version.

Scope: Under each operating system there is a list of adapters supported by this software fix.

    Windows 8:
  • The following Intel wireless adapters with version 16.0.x software:
    • Intel® Wireless-AC 7260 double bande.
    • Intel® Wireless-N 7260 double bande.
    • Intel® Wireless-N 7260.
    • Intel® Wireless-AC 3160 double bande.
  • The following wireless adapters with 15.x software:
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230.
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235.
    • Carte Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205.
    • Carte Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 for Desktop.
    • Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300.
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250.
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200.
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200 pour PC de bureau.
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150.
  • The following wireless adapters may be affected by this issue. These are not supported by the current software update. A future update will include the data reordering fix for these adapters.
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 105.
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135.
    • Windows 7*:
    • The Windows 7 software is only applicable to the wireless adapters listed below.
    • The following Intel wireless adapters with version 16.1.0 software:
      • Intel® Wireless-AC 7260 double bande.
      • Intel® Wireless-N 7260 double bande.
      • Intel® Wireless-N 7260.
      • Intel® Wireless-AC 3160 double bande.
      Note A future Windows 8 fix will address this issue for other Intel wireless adapters.

      Impact

      • Disruption of application layer data transfer resulting in application hangs or loss of connection.
      • Issue is more evident in scenarios of connect/reconnect, resume from suspend, and roaming.
      • Failure to obtain IP address via DHCP.

      Root cause
      Firmware change corrects a packet reordering problem that occurs primarily when there are other connected devices to the same BSS.
