DOS Error: File Access Denied (5) During Read On... CDC.SWP

...temporary file CDC.SWP. File may be write protected. Press F10 to continue.

DOS Error: File Not Found During Open... FAXPOPUP.TMP

...open on input file FAXPOPUP.TMP.

Emulator Internal Error: Soft Font Buffer...

If this error occurs with FAXPOP 1.40 or FAXPOP 1.41, try printing to a file using the HP LJIII printer driver, then convert the file using PRN2FAX.

FAXPOP Could Not Submit The Fax To Faxmodem...

FAXPOP Error: Can't Capture Your Print From This Application...

Some applications print perfectly to an Epson (or compatible) printer but get an error message from FAXPOP stating: "Error: Cannot capture your print from this application..." This error results when the application sends output to "LPT3.PRN". FAXPOP watches for output to "LPT3" and "LPT3.", but not "LPT3.PRN". DOS does look for "LPT3.PRN" which is why the printer works as expected.

This problem may (or may not) be addressed in a future release of FAXPOP. For now, print to a file using the Epson driver or HP LaserjetII/III driver (optional for Modem/100) then COPY the file to LPT3. This will achieve the desired result. It just takes a little more time.

FAXPOP Error: Internal Buffer Overflow

Cause: The application you're trying to fax from doesn't work with FAXPOP.

Cure: Use FAXPOP as described in the section "If this doesn't work..." in Chapter 1.

FAXPOP Error: Disk Full

Cause: Your hard disk is full.

Cure: Delete some files from your hard disk and try again.

NOTE: FAXPOP uses disk space to capture output from your application and convert it to a faxable format. This can take up to two times the space occupied by the faxable file. Keep as much space as possible free on your hard drive to ensure adequate room for FAXPOP to operate.

FAXPOP Error: Tried To Send While In Graphics Mode.

Cause: When you ran SETUP, you specified that FAXPOP pop up in text mode only, but you tried to send a fax in graphics mode, and FAXPOP can't pop-up to ask for address information.

Cure: Either run SETUP and specify "text and graphics mode" (Advanced Setup/Set Up Pop-Up Options/Pop-Up Mode) or use FAXPOP as described in the section "If this doesn't work..." in Chapter 1.

Input File Does Not Appear To Be In- HP-PCL FORMAT

Please verify that the correct printer driver is installed.

If you get this error with FAXPOP 1.41, try printing to a file using the HP LJIII driver and convert the file using PRN2FAX.

Intellifont Typeface Not Found...

internal error 66. Use the SETUP program to copy...

This error can result when the number of file handles is too small. Increase the number in the "FILES=" statement in your CONFIG.SYS file to at least 30 (if not more).

Invalid Emulation Option Specified.

The error "Invalid emulation option specified" is generated when trying to use the /P (PCX output) and the /H parameter (HP Laserjet II/III emulation) on the same command line when using the PRN2FAX program. To use the HP emulator to generate a PCX file, first use the PRN2FAX program to generate a DCX file (the default). Then use the BRKUPDCX program to convert the DCX file to a PCX file.

Invalid PCX Header

PCX files are required to have a special 128-byte header. This error occurs under any of these conditions:

  • The file contains a color palette (ao opposed to black & white).
  • The file is less than 128 bytes.
  • The file doesn't contain the PCX file identifier.
Invalid PCX File Type

This error is generated if any of the following parameters in the PCX header are not as listed here:

  • Encoding method = 1.
  • Bits-per-pixel = 1.
  • Upper-left horizontal coordinate = 0
  • Upper-left vertical coordinate = 0
  • Lower vertical coordinate = a nonzero number.
  • Number of color planes = 1
Invalid Line Width

The right-hand horizontal coordinate of a PCX file must be 1727 or less, and the horizontal line width in bytes must be 216 or less. The error occurs when either of these values is too large or zero.

Image Data Format Error

This error indicates that the graphics image data contains values that are invalid for PCX-encoded files.

No Output File Was Generated Because Your Print File...

...does not contain any vertical movement control characters (such as line feed)."

This error occurs when FAXPOP is set to emulate an Epson printer (but not when FAXPOP is set to emulate an HP LaserJet) during the following scenarios:

  • You don't have the Epson FX-80 or FX-85 printer driver selected.
  • You try to fax a blank document or a cover page only
  • You initialize the printer (FAXPOP) without sending a document.

Make sure that you have selected the Epson FX-80 or FX-85 printer driver and that your document is not blank. You never need to initialize FAXPOP from your application.

Out Of Memory

This error may occur during the HP conversion when using soft fonts.

Cause: Not enough available memory to handle soft fonts after the emulator's internal buffers are allocated. The problem varies depending on font size & number of fonts used.

Solution 1: Print to a file and use PRN2FAX to convert the document, then send with FAX.EXE or FAXPOP (1.40 or higher).

Solution 2: Provide 250K of EMS memory. This will make it better, but may not solve it.

Details: When the fax conversion starts (after name & address info are entered), the HP emulator allocates various data buffers for internal operations. Since no soft fonts are in use at this time, the emulator allocates memory without knowing soft fonts will be used. Then when the soft fonts are used, there is not enough buffer space available. FAXPOP could have been designed to scan the entire document for soft fonts before starting the conversion, but this would have doubled the conversion time.

When printing without EMS, a couple of soft fonts can be used (varies depending on font used). Providing EMS will increase the number slightly. This happens because FAXPOP allocates a fixed amount of memory (400K) for its internal use. About half of this is free for the emulator to use during conversions. If EMS is available, an additional 64K is available for the emulator, but the amount of EMS used to save the 64K is about 250K.

PRN2FAX works best because it isn't limited by the 400K fixed memory constraint on FAXPOP. PRN2FAX can use all the system's available conventional memory.

Premature End-Of-File

The PCX header specifies how many horizontal lines of image data are contained in the file. This error is produced when the end-of-file is reached, but less lines of data than specified in the header were found.

The Input File Contains HP GL/2 Commands...

...that are not supported by the emulator. Try setting your application to use an HP LaserJet II printer driver.

While FAXPOP does support the HPPCL (Hewlett-Packard Printer Control Language) up to and including version 5, FAXPOP doesn't support the HPGL (Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language). Use a printer driver that doesn't incorporate HPGL commands.

For WordPerfect 5.1, use either an HP LJIII driver dated 3-92 or earlier or just use an HP LJII driver.

The Input File Does Not Appear To Be In HP-PCL Format

Please verify that the correct printer driver is installed. Make sure the application you're printing from is configured for the HP LaserJet III printer driver. If the LaserJet III driver doesn't work or isn't available, try using an HP LaserJet II printer driver.

This error can occur if you attempt to fax a document containing OUTLINE fonts.

In one case, a file that generated this error was converted using PRN2FAX version 1.41 with the /O (override errors) parameters. Even though PRN2FAX reported the error, it created a faxable DCX file. Intel cannot guarantee that this will work in all cases, but it may be worth a try.

Intel has confirmed 2 reports of FAXPOP 1.41 not accepting HP-PCL files that FAXPOP 1.40 processed without a problem.

Unable To Submit Your Fax To SatisFAXtion Board...

Check your SatisFAXtion board's H/W and S/W configuration.

Unknown Error 4

This error is known to occur if you incorrectly enter the "-c" command in the file HP.CFG. When you enter the "-c" command, do not enter the quotation marks. The "-c" command changes FAXPOP's default symbol set.

Unknown Error 70

This error is caused by a corrupted file. To correct the problem, reinstall your SatisFAXtion modem's software.

Unknown Error 74

The error "Unknown Error 74" can occur with a SatisFAXtion® Modem/350 when using FAXPOP 1.41 and the file WIDTHS.SFT is missing from the HPFONTS subdirectory.
