IBM Thinkpad* 350, 350C: Compatible With Card Manager Software
When the system goes into SUSPEND mode, it turns the PCMCIA socket's power OFF, causing the PC Card to lose its configuration values. When power is RESUMEd, Intel's Card Manager software automatically re-configures the PCMCIA card. However, if any communications application that uses the PC Card without taking advantage of Intel's
Card Manager software was running when power was SUSPENDed, you must exit and re-enter the application before the application can regain access to the PCMCIA Card. To avoid exiting and re-entering applications when power resumes, enter your system's BIOS setup and turn the PCMCIA socket's power to ON.
Before Installing Intel'S Release 2 Software:

Accessing BIOS SETUP: Press [Fn] and [F1] at the same time.
IBM Thinkpad* 720: Compatible With Card Manager Software (Release 3)
Intel tested the IBM ThinkPad 720 system and found it COMPATIBLE with the Intel Faxmodem for PCMCIA and the Intel Card Manager software (Release 3). However, this system doesn't go into suspend mode if you type the PS2 OFF command while a PCMCIA card is in the socket.
If you change the battery while there is an Intel Faxmodem in the PCMCIA socket, the system may power off completely instead of entering suspend mode. To prevent this, plug in the external power supply before changing the battery.
The IBM 720 system has a MicroChannel-compatible PCMCIA socket controller and requires a set of drivers that are compliant with the PCMCIA 2.01 specification. You can obtain these drivers from IBM. If you do not have the latest drivers from IBM, the system may shut off when the card is inserted during the INSTALL program.
This computer comes from the factory with obsolete, non-functional PCMCIA drivers installed. To uninstall these drivers:
- Look in the C:\PCMPLUS directory for any PCMCIA drivers with a file date before 09-30-93. You can do this from either DOS or Windows.
- In DOS, type at the prompt:
CD C:\PCMPLUS
DIR /OD
You see a list of files in the \PCMPLUS directory, sorted by date. Note the names of all the files with a date before
09-30-93. Then go to step 2.
- In Windows, start File Manager and open a window for the C:\PCMPLUS directory. From the View menu, select All File Details. Note the names of all the files in the \PCMPLUS directory with a date before 09-30-93.
Edit your CONFIG.SYS file, and look for any reference to the old files you identified in step 1. If you see any, insert the word REM and a space before each reference. Save the CONFIG.SYS file and exit your editing program.
Before Installing Intel's Release 3 Software:
- Edit your CONFIG.SYS file as a plain text file. In CONFIG.SYS, edit the EMM386.EXE line to read: DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=DD00-DFFF
