Pc Anywhere - Leased Line Operation
Note: While most SatisFAXtion faxmodems support data modem operations over a leased line, the SatisFAXtion faxmodems do not support fax operations over a leased line.
PC Anywhere versions IV and 4.5 both contain an option that allows you to use the software over leased lines. Here's how to configure PC Anywhere for leased line operation:
- Run PC Anywhere.
- At the main menu, select "Hardware Configurations".
- Highlight your modem type the press ENTER.
- A new screen will appear. Locate the "Leased Line:" option at the bottom of this screen and answer "Yes" to configure the program for leased line operation.
Pc Anywhere And Smart Switch Operation
To use PC Anywhere with a Smart Switch and an Intel high-speed modem, enter an initialization string of AT&F for the modem.
From the PC Anywhere Host Main Menu:
- Choose Hardware Configurations.
- Choose Serial:modem.
- In the "Additional modem initialization string" field, enter AT&F.
AT&F is required for these Intel modems: Intel 9600EX and 14.4EX modems.
AT&F was not required (and not tested) for these Intel modems: Intel 2400EX V.42bis, 2400EX MNP5, 2400EX modems.
If the string is required, and not present, the modem does not initialize when a ring signal is coming in and therefore can not connect.
Pc Anywhere For Windows* 1.0
PC Anywhere for Windows version 1.0 is compatible with CASMODEM (and CASMODEM's CAS31VCD.386 driver).
Note: The system cannot receive faxes while PC Anywhere is in Host mode because CASMODEM is "asleep" while PC Anywhere is accessing the modem port.
A customer reported that received faxes looked like "barcode" after installing PC Anywhere for Windows. The problem disappeared after the customer changed a line in the [386Enh] section of the Windows
The line was:
device=aw5vcd.386 Changed the line to:
device=cas31vcd.386 PC Anywhere 1.0 for Windows is works with the SatisFAXtion Modem/350 (using DOWNLOAD.400 version 3.11. and CASMGR.EXE version 1.42) if PC Anywhere is set to answer at an equal or greater number of rings the SatisFAXtion Modem/350. However, if a non-CNG-tone fax call comes in, PC Anywhere will display a message asking "Cancel PC Anywhere?". When the fax has completed, answer the question with "No" to reinitialize PC Anywhere.
When PC Anywhere 1.0 for Windows is running in host mode with a SatisFAXtion Modem/350, or Upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic, PC Anywhere will display the message "Cancel PC Anywhere?" if the modem receives a call from a non-CNG fax machine. This problem is not caused by a "bug" in the SatisFAXtion board or in PC Anywhere. It during the SatisFAXtion board's SLS (Smart Line Sharing) routine. SLS allows the SatisFAXtion board to distinguish between fax, modem, and (in certain SLS modes) voice calls.
Here is why this problem occurs.
- The modem answers and listens for CNG tones. The non-CNG fax machine doesn't send CNG tones, so the attempts to connect as a data modem.
- When the data modem connection fails, the modem returns the result code "NO CARRIER" then attempts a fax connection.
- PC Anywhere sees the "NO CARRIER" result code and attempts to initialize the modem. However, by this time, the modem is attempting a fax connection and ignores PC Anywhere's initialization command.
- When PC Anywhere doesn't receive the result code "OK" in response
to its initialization command, it displays the message "Cancel PC Anywhere?" and will not receive a call until you answer the question.
- Once the fax has been received, you can answer "Yes" to the question. PC Anywhere will reset the data modem and prepare to receive a call.
One way to solve the problem would be to extend PC Anywhere's modem determination to more than 30 seconds. However, Symantec (makers of PC Anywhere) have not committed to making this modification. Contact Symantec if you would like them to add this feature to PC Anywhere to prevent the "Cancel PC Anywhere" message from appearing during a non-CNG fax call.

Configuring PC-Anywhere Iv Host To Fax On Demand From A Remote Pc
Here's how to configure PC Anywhere IV so you can send a fax using the SatisFAXtion board in a host computer.
- Synchronize the clocks in the host PC and the calling PC.
- In the host PC, set the SatisFAXtion fax and modem computer to answer after the same number of rings.
- Use the SatisFAXtion SETUP program to set the fax to answer after 1 or more rings.
- Use the "PC Anywhere Hardware Configuration" option to set the SatisFAXtion modem to the same number of rings.
3. In the host PC, start PC Anywhere IV HOST and select "EXIT" and "Allow incoming calls".
At the calling computer:
- Call the host computer
- Schedule a fax for 5 to 10 minutes in the future (so you have a chance to hang up before it sends).
- Disconnect from the host computer using the "EXIT, ALLOW INCOMING CALLS" option.
Synchronizing The Clocks You must synchronize the clocks in the host PC and the calling PC so you can accurately schedule a fax to send 5 to 10 minutes in the future. Since the SatisFAXtion fax and modem use the same phone line connection, it can't send a fax while you're connected to the SatisFAXtion modem. If the clocks aren't synchronized, the SatisFAXtion may try to send the fax while you're still connected.
Setting The Satisfaxtion In The Host PC In the host PC, you must set the SatisFAXtion fax and modem to answer after the same number of rings. To set the SatisFAXtion fax, run the SETUP program and select Advanced setup, Set up technical software option, then set Rings to answer to 1 or more.
To set the SatisFAXtion modem, run PC Anywhere IV and select "PC Anywhere Hardware Configuration". Set PC Anywhere to answer after the same number of rings you entered in the SETUP program.
Start Pc Anywhere Host
In the host PC, start PC Anywhere HOST using "EXIT" and select "Allow
incoming calls" option. Using any other HOST mode option will cause the computer to lock up if a fax comes in.
Call The Host And Schedule A Fax Call the host computer. Schedule a fax for 5 to 10 minutes in the future. The extra time gives you a chance to finish up and disconnect before the SatisFAXtion tries to send the fax. Be sure to disconnect from the host computer using the "EXIT, ALLOW INCOMING CALLS" option.

- Configure PC-Anywhere to answer after a minimum of 1 ring. Set the "Connection started by" setting to "Modem response". Set the "Connection ended by" setting to "Carrier Detect (DCD)".
- If you plan to use one of PC Anywhere's reboot options, make sure
