Intel® Matrix Storage Manager
What is a RAID-Ready system?

A RAID-Ready system is a specific system configuration that can be seamlessly migrated to a configuration that provides either improved storage performance or data protection from a single hard drive failure. All it requires is the addition of a second Serial ATA hard drive.

In order for a system with Intel® Viiv™ technology to be considered RAID-Ready, it must meet all of the following requirements:

  • System with an Intel® 82801GH I/O controller hub (ICH7DH)
  • One SATA Native Command Queuing (NCQ) hard drive
  • RAID controller enabled in the BIOS
  • Motherboard BIOS that includes the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager option ROM
  • Intel® Matrix Storage Manager loaded
