Intel® Matrix Storage Manager
Error Message: Incompatible hardware after installing the driver using F6

Description

An "Incompatible hardware" error message is received when attempting to install the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager from within Microsoft Windows*; however, the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver files were installed using the F6 installation method.

Solution

An "Incompatible hardware" error message indicates that a supported chipset is not present or the storage controller is in IDE mode.

Does the system contain a supported chipset?

  • If the answer is no, installation of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager is not possible or required.
  • If the answer is yes, the storage controller may be in IDE mode.

Use the following instructions to check the mode.

Note: The instructions below are specific to motherboards manufactured by Intel with a supported Intel® chipset. Always follow the instructions that are provided with your motherboard. The specific instructions on non-Intel manufactured motherboards may differ.
  1. Press F2 after the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) memory test begins.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Select Drive Configuration. Intel® RAID Technology and SATA AHCI Mode will be disabled if the storage controller is in IDE mode.

If the storage controller is in IDE mode, installation of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager is not possible or required.

If the system contains a supported chipset and you wish to change the operating mode from IDE to RAID or AHCI, use the following steps.

Caution: Changing the operating mode is neither recommended nor supported without a reinstallation of the operating system.
  1. Enable Intel® RAID Technology or SATA AHCI Mode.
  2. Press F10 to save the BIOS settings and exit the BIOS setup program.
  3. Install the operating system, using the F6 installation method to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver files.
  4. After the operating system installation is complete, install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager from within Microsoft Windows. The "Incompatible hardware" error message should not appear.
