The Intel® Matrix Storage Manager option ROM manages Serial ATA hard drives and RAID volumes attached to an Intel® RAID controller hub before the operating system loads. The option ROM should be integrated with the system BIOS on all motherboards with a supported Intel® chipset and Intel® RAID controller hub. To update or install the option ROM, you need to load a system BIOS that includes the option ROM.
Each version of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager option ROM supports a specific set of hardware. The below table provides some examples.
If you have an older version (for example, 6.x) of the option ROM installed on your system, you can successfully upgrade to a newer version (for example, 7.5) of the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager. You cannot, and do not need to, also update your system BIOS to one that includes version 7.5 of the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager option ROM as version 7.5 of the option ROM does not support the hardware on your system.
