Description
An error message that says "Disk Read Error Occurred" appears after you install the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager, set up a RAID volume, and reboot your system.
Solution
To resolve this issue, the Intel® RAID option ROM must be updated to version 3.5.0.3003. The Intel RAID option ROM is built into the system BIOS; to update the option ROM, update the system BIOS on your motherboard to a system BIOS that includes option ROM v3.5.0.3003.
| Note |
The Intel RAID option ROM version 3.x provides support for platforms with the Intel® 82801ER I/O controller hub (ICH5R) only; the issue should not be seen on other platforms. | |
You should be able to get an updated system BIOS from one of the following locations:
- If your motherboard was manufactured by Intel - obtain an updated system BIOS on the appropriate Intel motherboard website
- If your motherboard was not manufactured by Intel - contact your computer manufacturer for the latest updates and technical support information. Intel has made the updated Intel RAID option ROM available to all computer manufacturers.
Cause
The error message is caused by a timing issue with the hard drives; bits are being set slightly out of sync with what our RAID software is expecting. The issue does not occur on all Serial ATA hard drives and only occurs under certain conditions. There is currently no way to determine if your specific hard drive(s) might exhibit this issue. If you do not receive the error message after reboot, your hard drives should not be impacted by the issue.
