48-bit BIOS support is only needed if you are using Microsoft Windows* Me, Microsoft Windows* 98 SE, or Microsoft Windows* 98. While 48-bit LBA BIOS support is not needed for Microsoft Windows* XP or Microsoft Windows* 2000, it may add certain 48-bit BIOS functionality. This additional functionality is limited to items such as the BIOS setup menu, Power-On Self Test (POST) screen, and operation in a MS-DOS*-based environment.
Microsoft Windows* XP or Microsoft Windows* 2000 Users 48-bit LBA BIOS support is not necessary. Follow the Large Hard Drive Installation Instructions.
Microsoft Windows* Me, Microsoft Windows* 98SE, and Microsoft Windows* 98 Users
- If your BIOS does not currently support 48-bit LBA, you will need to obtain an updated BIOS from your motherboard or system manufacturer.
- If your BIOS currently has 48-bit LBA support, no BIOS changes are necessary. Follow the Large Hard Drive Installation Instructions.
