Overview topicCommand-line Support for the VTune(TM) Performance Analyzer

You can invoke the VTune(TM) Performance Analyzer from the command line. The command-line interface of the VTune analyzer (vtl) enables you to collect data on your application and system performance and view the results in table form. The command-line model enables invoking vtl repeatedly on a single project. This method enables configuring a single Activity with a collector and a single optional application, and then running the Activity several times and comparing the results.

To launch vtl, type vtl at the command-line prompt.

Type vtl -help to see the VTune analyzer command-line help summary. This help provides a short description of all the available options. For the full help (this help system), do one of the following:

Results are stored in a default project. To view the results, use the following command line: vtl view.

You can use vtl together with the graphical user interface (GUI) of the VTune analyzer. For example, you may collect data in the command-line mode and export it to the GUI version of the VTune analyzer. The whole project can also be saved and loaded into the GUI version of VTune analyzer.

Use the command-line version of the VTune analyzer to create and run Activities with sampling or call graph data collectors. You can display Activity results in the graphical interface by using the graphical viewers.
