Pros: Slim, attractive design ; cheaper than other slim 13-inch laptops ; uses Intel's new ULV processor
Cons: Flimsy keyboard feels cheap ; shorter battery life than we'd expect from a low-power system
Verdict: MSI's superslim X340 offers the slick look of a MacBook Air or Dell Adamo, but cast in plastic for about half the price.

Pros: Razor thin. Incredibly light for a 13-inch laptop. Plenty of ports, including HDMI and three USBs. Generous hard drive capacity. Very inexpensive
Cons: A bending keyboard. Noisy mouse buttons. Single-core processor is behind the times. 2GB of memory seems meager nowadays
Verdict: For the MSI X340 you spend about half as much as you would on the MacBook Air, but you get only half as much in design and craftsmanship.

Pros: Incredibly slim, attractive design, Snappier performance than netbooks, More than 3 hours of battery life
Cons: Flexing keyboard, Weak graphics performance
Verdict: The 1.3-megapixel webcam above the display provided clear images in a video call. The other caller could make out our new hair cut and hear our voice clearly with the built-in microphone located to the left of the cam.

Pros: Everything a netbook should be: Offers the best performance available from a computer this portable and inexpensive. Very usable keyboard. Good quality audio. Includes three USB ports, 1.3-megapixel webcam, and SD card slot
Cons: LCD could be a touch brighter and quality sharper. Chassis design is a bit boring
It's not quite a netbook, not quite an ultralight PC. Whatever it is, Samsung's NC20 is a dazzling feat of engineering: an extremely usable 12-inch laptop with epic battery life, impressive specs and a downright mystifyingly affordable price tag.
