Overview
During the past decade, the People and Practices Research Team has undertaken a broad range of projects and ethnographic studies generally related to the home space, domestic arrangements and the oftentimes complex relationships among people, spaces, and a number of different technologies. They’ve studied ‘high media use’ middle-class nuclear families, empty-nesters, gay couples, the emerging Asian middle class, teenagers and octogenarians among others. We’ve visited high-rise apartment buildings in Seoul, Native American Reservations, British terraced houses, college student housing in the US, homes in Indian villages, in Indonesian cities and on Ecuadorian mountain tops. Through ethnographic research, they have learned how people define 'home' and the values that inform how they inhabit these spaces.
