Overview
Intel Research engages with both internal and external users to impact industry (sometimes referred to as vertical industries) and society by testing and piloting research technologies.. The purpose of these engagements are to advance Intel’s research through putting new technologies in the hands of end users, so they can help us refine the value proposition and focus our research. We are also seeking to understand the ecosystem around these new technologies, so eventually Intel can move promising new technologies out of the research realm into the broader industry.

Many of Intel’s research technologies apply to a variety of vertical industries. Based on the research we are engaging in today, we have a natural affinity to specific vertical industries. Our vertical industry engagements have also been driven by interest in Intel Research technologies from lead users like BP in Energy and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute in Biotechnology.

Today, Intel Research is focused on testing new research technologies in Health, Biotechnology/Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Energy, Agriculture and the Environment. We are always open to new ideas and applications of Intel Research technologies, so check back again and learn more about our expanding list of lead user engagements.

Vertical Industries
  • Healthcare - Intel is working to bring attention to the age wave crisis by promoting technology R&D efforts to give seniors-and their caregivers-more choice in housing and healthcare options.
  • Biotechnology - Research focus is to create fundamental advances in sensor technology to make it possible to use microchips to diagnose disease and improve people's health.
  • Agricultural / Environmental - Wireless Sensor networks could reveal more comprehensive perspectives about pictures of events and processes than ever before possible. Many industries from agricultural and the environment are just beginning to realize how these tiny sensors can transform the way they conduct their business.
  • Manufacturing / Energy - Intel wireless sensor network technology can enable proactive preventive maintenance leading to reduced equipment downtime, lower operating costs, increased efficiency and improved worker safety.
