Close-Up on National Heart Centre

Doctors need to easily record and refer to patients' medical records during consultations. For National Heart Centre (NHC) in Singapore, which sees about 80,000 out-patients per year, paper-based documentation was making it hard to get fast access to medical records and prolonging consultation time. Deciphering doctors' sometimes illegible handwriting was another issue. NHC needed a new way to fully and accurately capture data in its busy environment.
To meet the challenges, NHC carried out a pilot project to replace paper-based documentation and improve the accuracy of the hospital's operations. The key was giving doctors IntelŽ technology-based wireless Tablet PCs with IntelŽ CentrinoŽ technology, working with a server based on IntelŽ XeonŽ processors running Adobe LifeCycle* software.
"With this integrated and well-configured system, we are able to harness more information effectively at the point of care," explains Diana Teo, senior systems specialist in NHC's IT department. "As a result, patients are able to receive better healthcare during their consultation visits."
