Intel® LUN Copier Overview
The Intel® LUN Copier feature enables local copies of any LUN (virtual drive) when it is not being actively used by a compute module. This capability, which does not require any special software to be run on a compute module, simplifies tasks such as (a) creating a local copy of a data LUN and (b) creating a new OS LUN (which can be assigned to a new compute module as the boot LUN), by copying an existing LUN which already has an OS installed in it.
Common uses of the Intel LUN Copier include:
- Local backup
- Operating system provisioning/deployment
- Non-production environment testing
- Off-line RAID morphing
- On-line RAID morphing (to be released in Q4 2009)
- On-line defragmentation (to be released in Q4 2009)
This software upgrade is activated by typing in the Intel LUN Copier license key on an Intel® Modular Server. The license key is generated with a unique paper pack ID number and system serial number at the Intel Modular Server license key activation website.
