In January 2006, Intel Corporation Chairman Craig Barrett announced plans to expand the Intel® Teach Program to educate an additional 10 million teachers by 2011 reaching a total of 13 million teachers worldwide on how to integrate technology effectively into their classrooms and lesson plans. This initiative could potentially reach one billion students, helping them develop the 21st century skills they will need to succeed in a global economy. Centered around our belief that "computers aren't magic; teachers are," Intel Teach helps teachers understand how, when, and where to incorporate technology tools and resources into the learning environment, fostering their students' critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills, preparing them to thrive in the years ahead.
In 2006, the Intel Teach Program made progress toward this goal by expanding to eight new countries: Colombia, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and the UK. Having reached 900,000 teachers in 2006, the program has now trained over four million teachers in more than 40 countries since its inception in 1999.
