Intel Products Win Two Network Computing Well-Connected Awards

LAS VEGAS, May 10, 2001 - Intel Corporation today announced that its e-Commerce networking products earned two Well-Connected Awards from Network Computing magazine at this week's Networld+Interop trade show.

"Well-Connected awards are given to products, technologies and services that have withstood testing in our Real-World Labs*, and proven to be essential to meeting business initiatives," said Fritz Nelson, vice president and publisher of CMP's Network Computing. "When a product receives a Well-Connected award, it is an important endorsement - it is the top in its category and carries through with the promise of excellence."

The Intel® NetStructure™ 7280 XML Director won in the e-Commerce Acceleration Device category. The XML Director is a network device designed to accelerate and intelligently control secure XML-based Internet transactions so that business-to-business e-Commerce can take place faster and more reliably. In a February product review, Network Computing found the XML Director to be "a robust load-balancing device with features that are well-suited to servicing the business-to-business world."

A combination of several products from the Intel NetStructure product family won in the High-Availability Hosting Solution category. The solution includes the Intel NetStructure 7180 e-Commerce Director, a device that combines e-Commerce acceleration and application-aware traffic management; the Intel NetStructure 1500 Cache, a network appliance that can improve bandwidth utilization at lower costs than traditional caching solutions; and the Intel NetStructure 7190 Multi-Site Traffic Director, a global traffic management solution that directs customer traffic to highest-performing server. In a June 2000 article, Network Computing recognized the product family for its "completeness and ease of implementation."

Since the debut of the product family in February 2000, Intel's NetStructure products have been recognized with numerous industry awards, including:

  • The Networld+Interop Spring 2000 Best of Show Grand Prize Award, for the Intel NetStructure 7210 XML Director;
  • InternetWeek's Best of the Best 2000 Hardware Award, for the Intel NetStructure 7180 e-Commerce Director; and
  • An InternetWeek Approved Award, for the Intel NetStructure 480T Routing Switch.

Intel NetStructure products are sold as communications building blocks at various levels of integration, enabling computer, networking and telecom original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring innovative products and solutions to market more quickly and easily. These OEM customers include HP and Compaq worldwide; Fujitsu, NEC and Hitachi in Japan; Lang Chao in China; and Samsung in Korea.

The Well-Connected Award winners are chosen by Network Computing's editors. These IT experts test products and services throughout the year, comparing features and functionality to find the best offerings in the enterprise arena. The winners of the Well-Connected Awards are highlighted in the May 14 issue of Network Computing and online at www.networkcomputing.com.
