SMART GRID ENERGY
Utilities are deploying Intel® computing and communications technology across the power grid to increase utilization of existing electrical capacity and optimize use of alternative energy sources such as wind and solar. Distributed intelligence based on Intel® Xeon®, Core™ and Atom™ processors decentralizes control and improves energy efficiency. Examples include:
- Energy generation: Wind guide vanes use Intel technology to optimize their position as wind conditions change
- Energy distribution: Substation control systems use Intel’s processing horsepower to monitor and control all sections of an electrical transmission and distribution network
- Monitoring energy use: Home energy management systems provide real-time data about energy use and offer energy savings solutions
