Enterprise Class WLAN SolutionsIntel® Centrino® processor technology clients deliver enterprise class WLAN solutions
While mobility in the enterprise is reshaping the way employees work and improving their productivity, IT departments are being tasked with managing greater numbers of WLAN clients and more complex security solutions. These mobile wireless usage models and security requirements demand comprehensive WLAN manageability. Intel® Centrino® processor technology based notebooks with Intel's Wi-Fi technology provide best-in-class enterprise manageability with must have features and tools for enterprise IT to:
- Improve security
- Reduce complexity
- Save time and money
Built-in WLAN manageability
Managing hundreds or thousands of notebooks can be tedious and complex for enterprise IT organizations. Intel® Centrino® processor technology based based notebooks deliver built-in WLAN manageability features that allow uniformity of security, settings and drivers across an enterprise notebook deployment to save time and money.
Intel® Centrino® with vPro™ technology
Intel® Centrino® with vPro™ technology enables enterprise IT to take advantage of platform assisted security and manageability capabilities that enhance their ability to maintain, manage, and protect their business notebooks. Using the latest IT management consoles from Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) with native Intel vPro technology support, IT can remotely manage WLAN notebooks. Because Intel vPro is built into the platform hardware, it provides the industry's first solution for OS-absent (independent) manageability even when the PC is off, the OS is unresponsive, or software agents are disabled.
Intel® Active Management Technology
Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) delivers enhanced security features such as network access security and improved remote manageability. This technology increases network access security and improved remote manageability when using Cisco infrastructure and Intel products.
- Discover hardware and software computing assets
- Heal systems remotely regardless of operating system state
- Protect the enterprise against malicious attacks
Intel® PROSet/Wireless administrator tool
The Intel® PROSet/Wireless administrator tool delivers real cost-saving benefits to enterprises through simplified management, greater control over wireless clients, and increased productivity. IT departments can easily perform the following client management tasks:
- Create customized password protected install packages for easy configuration, management and deployment of wireless clients
- Create user specific, common, Single Sign On (SSO) support with pre-logon and persistent connection profiles to provide advanced, secure wireless connections
- Create packages customized to include configurable application settings, adapter settings, Intel® PROSet/Wireless software components and EAP-FAST A-ID Groups
IT managed profiles
Intel WLAN features built into Intel® Centrino® processor technology based notebooks provide unique read-only, non-deletable WLAN profiles that enable IT departments to segment and secure corporate WLAN policies for notebook users. These IT managed profiles are at the heart of keeping corporate notebook users in compliance with corporate WLAN connection and usage policies.
Silent install
IT departments save time and remove installation complexities by controlling and streamlining the installation of drivers and profiles. End users no longer face popup questions or wizards that require input, reducing errors. Deployment of driver/profile package makes installation and upgrade non-intrusive and supports a variety of push methodologies within an operating system.
Enterprise grade features
Intel WLAN goes beyond basic connectivity to address enterprise complexities of bandwidth utilization, enhanced security support, and manageability measures. With Intel WLAN, IT Departments can best optimize existing LAN/WLAN infrastructures and take advantage of the latest in enhanced security technologies.
Adapter switching
Intel's WLAN adapter switching capability allows enterprise IT to maximize its available network bandwidth by offloading WLAN notebook users to LAN infrastructure when available. Whenever a valid wired Ethernet connection is detected, the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility will automatically close the wireless connection. If the system loses it’s wired Ethernet connection, the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Connection Utility will automatically attempt to connect to the last connected profile.
Smart card support
Smart card support improves network security through user identification and reduces IT overhead for password management. Some benefits include:
- Supports Microsoft Windows* Single Sign-On scenario to automatically establish wireless connection
- Automatically resumes secure session upon reconnection
- Supports multiple certificates on a single card
Single sign-on/Pre-Logon/Persistent connection
IT departments save time and remove installation complexities by controlling and streamlining the installation of drivers and profiles. End users no longer face popup questions or wizards that require input, reducing errors. Deployment of driver/profile package makes installation and upgrade non-intrusive and supports a variety of push methodologies within an operating system.
Single Sign On with Pre-logon profiles allows the notebook to be authenticated to the WLAN for IT manageability prior to Windows log-on sequence. Some of the benefits of using pre-logon profiles include network password changes, enabling user roaming profiles and allowing logon scripts to execute.
Certificate warnings
Intel WLAN supports EAP-TLS Certificate warnings. This feature helps avoid the inconvenience of losing connectivity unknowingly when an EAP-TLS Certificate expires by allowing adequate time for the end user to renew certificate credentials.
Intel® Wireless Troubleshooter
The Intel® Wireless Troubleshooter helps users resolve wireless network connection issues before contacting IT, reducing support calls. When a connection issue is detected, a desktop alert appears. Once the user clicks on the desktop alert, a diagnostic message displays the steps recommended to resolve the connection issue.
Intel® manual diagnostics tool
The Intel® Manual Diagnostics Tool lets you run a set of diagnostics tests that verify the functionality of your Wi-Fi adapter including hardware, driver and radio tests. There are two levels of diagnostics details including user level and technical support level. At the user level, the tool shows a short description of the different diagnostics steps that are being taken and only shows a pass or fail indication for each step. The technical support level includes the creation of a log file, which contains detailed information on all the executed tests. This log file can be saved to a text file and emailed to a technical support department to troubleshoot connection problems.
