History - In the early 1980s, Intel Corporation established a museum to record its history. The museum opened to the public in 1992 and its role has since expanded as a tourist destination and educational resource in Silicon Valley. In 1999, the museum tripled in size and added a store to better serve visitors.
Exhibits - Visitors can experience what it's like inside the ultra-clean, highly automated factories where Intel makes silicon chips, trace Intel innovations, learn about Intel's culture and business practices, and see how new technologies are changing the way people work, learn, play, and communicate. The 10,000-square-foot museum has over 30 hands-on exhibits that appeal to both children and adults. Exhibits change frequently to keep up with the pace of technology.
Self-Guided Tours - The museum is designed as a self-guided experience. Visitors may enhance their visits with video and interactive activities provided on state-of-the-art audio tour units. The audio tours are available in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish, and are free of charge.
Educational programs - By advance reservation, students in grades 2-12 can enjoy free field trips that include a guided tour and interactive science classes in the museum's computer-equipped learning lab. Classes are designed to help teachers meet the science standards adopted by the California State Board of Education. The classes cover a variety of topics, including electrical circuits, technology careers, product marketing, problem-solving, the scientific method, and binary code. The museum can accommodate up to 35 students on a field trip.
Attendance - Close to 80,000 people visit the Intel Museum each year.
Intel Museum Store - The store is the only corporate museum store in Silicon Valley open to the public. It stocks a wide range of items, including clothing, toys, and souvenirs, all designed with high-tech themes.
Admission, hours and location - Admission and parking are FREE. The museum and store are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, excluding holidays. The museum is located inside Intel's Robert Noyce Building at 2200 Mission College Blvd., Santa Clara, Calif. For security reasons, visitors may not bring bags and backpacks into the museum.
