Software Engineer, Mobility Group
"Intel is a company that holds incredible opportunity for those who are willing to seek it out. Having a supportive manager and a culture that supports work/life balance has enabled me to engage the company on a much more meaningful and rewarding level."
How do I make a difference at Intel and to my community?
At a company as big as Intel, there are countless opportunities to get involved. I've taught classes, given tours, recycled eWaste, planted trees, built houses, judged science fairs, organized charity poker tournaments, led Toastmasters clubs and driven process improvement with Intel's 15+ diverse employee groups. I thoroughly enjoy making new connections at Intel while contributing towards a greater cause.
What's the biggest misconception that I think people have about Intel?
That we have a bunch of oompa loompas wearing bunny suits in the fab. Well I've been there so let's set the record straight: some of them just wear jeans and a t-shirt.
What's the coolest experience that I've had while working at Intel?
RCGnet (Intel's recent college grad group) recently wrapped up a year-long collaboration with non-profit Mercy Corps to rebuild a school in Peru that was destroyed by an earthquake. We received extraordinary support from over 230 Intel employees and raised $30,000 to construct two new classrooms that serve 100 children in rural Peru.
What's the most adventurous thing I've ever done?
I went skydiving for my birthday last year — it was a total blast! Each quarter I try to convince my group at work to go for a teambuilding event, but so far no takers!
If I could live and work abroad for a year, where would I go?
Without a doubt I'd spend it in Tokyo. I visited Japan a few years ago and completely fell in love with the culture. I just like how everyone is so polite and formal; not to mention being in geek heaven with all the technology.
What's the coolest gadget that I've bought lately?
I gotta give a shout out to my Sanyo PLV-Z3* home theater projector. My dad and I built a 110" screen and I enjoy everything from Wii* to HD movies to trippy visualizers for those occasional dance parties.
