Whether sharing photos from the last birthday party or staying in touch via email, if you're the family coordinator, you need a computer that can handle pictures, videos, calendaring and (lots of) online communications.

Things to consider

Processor

The processor is the heart of the computer and should be energy-efficient for great battery life and deliver enough performance to keep up with a busy lifestyle. The Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor is a great choice.

Memory

The amount of memory (RAM) can help your computer be more responsive when running multiple applications at once. Having 2 to 3 GB of memory should be plenty.

Hard Drive

If you're saving lots of family photos or copying your CD collection onto your computer, you'll need plenty of hard drive space to hold it all. For laptops, look for a minimum of 120 GB; for desktops, 250 GB.

Screen Size

A laptop screen that's 16 inches or larger will help you enjoy viewing photos, watching videos and reading online text with less eyestrain.
