Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine, is home to 2.7 million people. The Intel Microelectronics Inc. office is located close to Naberezhno-Kreschatitskaya Peer in Podil — the oldest region of Kiev, just opposite the Iljinskaya church. Two restaurants nearby offer a wide range of Ukrainian national dishes. In this area you can also take in many architectural monuments. On the slope of Volodymyr Hill stands the imposing monument to Prince Volodymyr, erected in 1853. Near Intel's office is Kiev-Mohyla Academy, a national university where millions of students acquire a higher education. Its library is considered one of the finest of all Ukrainian universities.
The Dnipro hills are dominated by Kiev's greatest monument, the Kievo-Pecherska Lavra, built almost nine centuries ago. This complex of churches, each a masterpiece of architecture, has long been a place of worship. Most famous for the relics in its catacombs, Lavra is also called the Monastery of Caves. Andryivsky Uzviz in Podil is a street famous for its Ukrainian art, embroidery pieces, pisanky and pottery. Many tourists visit this place to buy oil paintings and Ukrainian vishivanky (embroidery).
Ukraine's diverse major industries include machinery, iron and steel, agriculture, chemicals and transit services. The Ukrainian PC market has experienced considerable growth in recent years, boosted by a favorable economic climate in Ukraine.
