Enjoying life in São Paulo

São Paulo is the business and cultural capital of Brazil, and is located in the southeast of Brazil. The official language in São Paulo is Portuguese, but English and Spanish are widely spoken. Latin America's largest industrial and commercial center, São Paulo covers an area five times greater than Paris. It is a city that offers international cuisine and a variety of nightlife options at reasonable prices.
There are three main areas to visit in São Paulo: Paulista Avenue (Jardins), Downtown and Berrini/Brooklyn, where the majority of the multinational companies' headquarters are located. The Itaim Bibi region is a chic area for going out with more expensive clubs and sophisticated nightlife spots like Baretto and Mercearia São Roque, both on Rua Amauri. Another interesting area for nightlife is Vila Madalena, an artsy neighborhood full of restaurants and clubs southwest of Paulista Avenue. Next to the Vila Madalena is the neighborhood of Pinheiros, also is known for its crowds at night.
Throughout São Paulo are more than 20 shopping malls, as well as plenty of movie theatres and restaurants. The busy municipal market has hundreds of booths where shoppers can find food, flowers and deals on a variety of merchandise. The Modern Art Museum, the city's oldest museum of its kind, is dedicated to promoting the works of contemporary artists. The Museo de Arte de São Paulo is one of the finest museums in Brazil. It features many works from Brazilian and European artists.
Finally, one of São Paulo's most magnificent buildings is its Teatro Municipal (Municipal Theater), built in 1903 in an Art Nouveau and Italian Renaissance style. This is fine a venue for watching concerts, ballets and operas.
