Enjoying life in Taipei
Taipei offers numerous cultural attractions such as museums, parks and theatres. The Taipei Fine Arts Museum is the largest modern art museum in all of Asia; the National Palace Museum has the world's most extensive and precious collection of
Chinese art with approximately 700,000 pieces. The National Theatre within the National Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center
(designed in classical Chinese architecture) regularly features opera and theater performances throughout the year. In the
evenings, people also often enjoy concerts in the public square outside of Taipei City Hall.
There are many other landmarks and artistic experiences to enjoy throughout Taipei. Snake Alley on Huahsi Street is a vibrant
nighttime market that has to be experienced to be understood. Taipei is known as one of the world's greatest cities for
Chinese culinary arts, though its food has many Japanese influences, too.
With a subtropical climate, Taipei summers (May through September) are extremely hot and humid. The rainy season which is
usually April and May, sometimes lasts all the way until September.
Taipei's transportation and communication services are excellent, with public buses offering up to 200 routes around the city
(at 5-to-10-minutes intervals). Modern housing is prevalent and modern conveniences can be found most everywhere.
