The Site—Sarov

Sarov has been making valuable research and development contributions since 1992 when the office operated on the contract system. In 2003, the Sarov site joined Intel Russia as a full, equitable R&D center with approximately 150 highly qualified specialists. Employees at the Sarov site concentrate primarily on software development products and technology research.

Sarov’s key development areas include:
  • Performance libraries that allow optimal usage of Intel® processors in media and scientific applications
  • Tools that help simplifying work with threaded and distributed systems, producing their best performance
  • Compilers to accelerate software
  • Physical models that simulate process and circuits

As a very small city, the commute time between home and the office is very short. The Sarov site provides employees excellent opportunities to enjoy a comfortable work/life balance, and also have fun. A variety of clubs offer employees a chance to pursue their interests and activities like football, volleyball and swimming teams. The employee clubs also organize holiday celebrations, often inviting family members to join in the festivities.
With plans move to move late 2006, the new Sarov site will be located within the Technopark and designed to offer employees the latest modern conveniences.

Enjoying life in Sarov

Located in Nizhniy Novgorod region, Sarov is a small, but extremely pleasant city with a population of approximately 85,000. Sarov has a unique atmosphere and history that combines two, seemingly incompatible, fields—religion and nuclear science.
Founded in the mid twentieth century on the ruins of a monastery well-known for the great Russian hermit, Reverend Serafim Sarovskiy, Sarov’s contradictory future includes the creation and refinement of nuclear weapons. It became home to Soviet, and later Russian, nuclear science development, which united the talents and knowledge of many leading scientists from all over the former Soviet Union. Due to the sensitive nature of the scientific researches, Sarov continued its secretive nature and history of restricted access since its founding. Only in the early 1990s did Sarov revealed its scientific potential to the world. With the restoration of the memories of Saint Serafim Sarovskiy, Sarov is also revered as a valuable possession of Russian Orthodox Church.
Surrounded by a vast territory of rich picturesque forests generously sprinkled with lakes, Sarov offers a variety of fun for those who love outdoor activities like swimming, fishing, skiing, and hiking. Besides offering a wide range of sports, Sarov residents and visitors can also enjoy a cultural life with the city hosting famous theaters, musicians, and international level competitions. Those who seek self-development opportunities, Sarov provide many scientific conferences and seminars on different subjects.
With high-level kindergartens and schools specializing in humanities and natural science, Sarov offers an ideal environment to raise children. For non-residents, the Intel Russia site at Sarov provides rooms in the newly constructed dormitory.
