Pauric Shevlin
Background
My name is Pauric and I work in the Manufacturing department in Intel. I've been with Intel Ireland since May 2000 and I had no previous clean room experience until joining the dynamic Intel team. Prior to joining the Intel team I was employed with the North Western Health Board.
My Job
I work in the Manufacturing department and I am responsible for performing maintenance on certain tools as part of a team. The tool that I work on deposits tungsten onto silicon wafers to connect the metal layers, which joins the transistors together. My job covers a huge range of areas associated with these machines, from working alongside fellow technicians performing maintaince procedures, to cost effectiveness, or parts management. The challenges in this role are that I never see the same issues arising from one shift to the next, there is always something new to be learnt. I have been to America on two occasions to participate in training which has helped to increase my knowledge of the tool that I maintain. I am also a member of the Shift Safety Council and I am the Emergency Response Team (ERT) sub team leader on shift. In this role I participate in projects throughout the year to help maintain Intel's outstanding safety performance. As ERT sub team leader I have the role of leading a team on a shift basis in the event of any incidents onsite .i.e. spills, leaks, chemical detection all of which we are trained to deal with and I undertake refresh courses in this area each year.
What I enjoy
I enjoy my work in Intel and being part of the Safety Council and ERT teams. It is very important to me that I contribute to ensuring that all Intel employees work in a safe environment.
Still Learning
I have just completed a City & Guilds in Electronics which was sponsored through the Intel Further Education programme. Intel encourages employees to participate in further education and organises programmes through a range of colleges to promote this. I have also increased my technical knowledge within the semi-conductor industry and feel I am constantly learning on a daily basis.
Social Life
Intel run a vast amount of social events through the Intel Sports and Social Club which Intel employees voluntarily contribute to on a weekly basis. They organise cinema nights, barbeques, golf outings and nights at the races. These are great nights where we can all get together and have some fun.
