Since 1989, Intel has invested over $7 billion transforming the 360 acre former stud farm campus in Leixlip, Co. Kildare into a state of the art manufacturing centre of excellence.

Intel’s Leixlip campus is County Kildare is Intel’s fourth largest manufacturing site and the largest fabrication facility outside the United States. The campus employs over 5,500 people, directly and indirectly. There are currently four semi-conductor factories or FABs on site; Fab 10 and Fab 14 have merged to form Ireland Fab Operations (IFO), Fab 24, and the recently opened Fab 24-2 which is one of the most technically advanced, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing sites in the world. It produces the latest Intel products; the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo and Intel® Core™2 Extreme processors for consumer, business, desktop and laptop PCs.

The Leixlip campus also headquarters the Intel Innovation Centres. These centres foster innovation, generating new conceptual and usage models for IT infrastructure based on systemic innovation and breakthrough research. A collaborative research centre, focused on the use of technology to assist ageing in conjunction with world-leaders in academic research in Irish universities and hospitals was announced in 2006. An additional 150 people are employed at Intel Communications Europe in Shannon, Co. Clare which is a customer focused product design centre. The Shannon team is responsible for the design and development of advanced software and silicon technology for use with Intel’s family products.

Being a good neighbour in the local community is important to Intel Ireland who strive to have a positive involvement in their local communities adding value through various contributions and the Intel Involved volunteer programme. Over the last 10 years, Intel Ireland employees have volunteered over 170,000 hours in their local communities.

Intel Ireland is a strong supported of education in Ireland. On a national level, Intel supports the promotion of science and engineering through a number of initiatives at both Junior and Leaving Certificate levels. Strong links have been built with all universities and technical institutions covering significant post-graduate research programmes, curriculum development and continuing education initiatives for employees.

Intel is proud to be one of the Top 10 in the ’50 Best Companies to Work For in Ireland’, according to the 2006 assessment by the Great Place to Work Institute Ireland. Intel was also one of the 15 companies located in Ireland that were listed in the top 100 companies in Europe in 2006.

Intel Ireland has an excellent environmental management track record. Our Environmental Management System is accredited to the ISO 14001 quality standard and as such is the first Intel plant to do so.

Intel Ireland's Leixlip plant is a truly world-class facility producing microprocessors and communication silicon chips that are at the heart of much of today's computing and communications revolution.
