Operation Eye Opener - Recycle Your Old Eye Glasses

As part of Intel's continued commitment to increasing the recycling rate in the local area, a number of different and interesting recycling initiatives have taken place over the last year. Household hazardous waste such as paint, cleaners, batteries, pesticides and medicine were recycled after collections in Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth last year. A PC and electrical recycling collection was organised after the success of the household hazardous waste collection.

More recent collections include 'recycle your bicycle' where 926 bicycles were collected over 6 hours in Leixlip, Maynooth and Celbridge and a further 300 were deposited to the segregation area at Silliot Hill, Kildare. These bicycles are destined for developing countries where a bicycle can really make a difference to a person's life.

Operation Eye Opener is the next recycling initiative and it will take place from Friday 20th September to Saturday 5th October. The eyeglasses collected will be transported to developing countries were they will give people the opportunity to work and learn and achieve a quality of life which would have otherwise been out of their reach. Drop off points will be located in participating pharmacies and opticians in Leixlip, Celbridge, Maynooth and Kilcock for the duration of the collection.
