INTEL SHANNON SCHOLARSHIPS FOR “WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY”
January 18, 2006

Intel Shannon is encouraging a new generation of high achieving women to take up the challenge of a career in technology, through the recently launched Intel “Women in Technology” scholarship programme. Engineers Áine Molloy and Lorraine Bohan are both former recipients of the award and now work at Intel Shannon.
Each year the programme will award scholarships valued at €2,000 each per annum to female school leavers who are starting specific undergraduate degree courses. In addition to this, the programme offers scholarships, valued at €2,000 each per annum, for female students already placed in the first two years of relevant university degrees courses. These scholarships will last the remainder of their undergraduate courses.
When speaking about the scholarship programme Lorraine Bohan said “I’m delighted that Intel Shannon is offering these scholarships. My Intel scholarship was a great benefit to me, it is a great opportunity, not only to gain invaluable experience in the working environment but, it is also to get career advice and pointers. Intel already hires twice the national average of female engineers but there is always room for more!”
The scholarship programme includes opportunity for work placements and/or summer internships on the Intel Shannon campus. In order to assist with career progression and further education, each scholar will be assigned a mentor who is an Intel employee to assist and provide advice on managing their academic career.
Interested students should complete an application form which will be distributed to the schools and colleges during the visit by Intel representatives. These forms should be returned to their careers office before April 14th 2006. Information on the scholarships may be obtained by contacting school Career Guidance teachers, college Careers Offices or by contacting Intel Shannon by email at Shannon-scholarships@intel.com.
