EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK MARKED IN INTEL
October 03, 2006

Intel Ireland marked European Mobility Week with an awareness campaign about the different mobility programmes that are available on site. European Mobility Week was from the 16th to 22nd September. Information stands were placed in the canteens to remind employees of the Bicycle Users Group, the Car Pool initiative and the shuttle bus which collects employees from train stations and local towns. Public transport timetables were also available for all local routes.
Each year, the Intel Mobility team undertake to survey how employees travel to work every day. The findings have improved each year. For example the number of people taking the train in 2006 increased 60% since 2005. There are now 100 car pooling spaces available throughout the Leixlip campus. These spaces are near the entrance and reserved for registered car pool employees only. In 2006, 10% of employees on the Leixlip campus share a lift to work.
Will Manning leads the Mobility Team on the Leixlip campus, “We had a great response to our recent mobility awareness campaign. I am delighted to report that Intel employees are continuing to swap their car for more environmentally friendly methods of transport, like walking or taking the train.”
The Intel Mobility Team in Leixlip works with local transport providers and the Garda Siochana to look for new ways to encourage environmentally friendly travel to work.
