INTEL OPENS FIRST INTEL COMPUTER CLUBHOUSE IN NORTHERN IRELAND

March 10, 2006

BELFAST, Northern Ireland, March 10, 2006 – Intel Corporation Chairman Craig Barrett opened Northern Ireland’s first Intel Computer Clubhouse, an after-school learning program for underserved youth ages 10 to 18.

“With nearly 30 percent of Belfast’s population being younger than 16, investing in education and technology access is a vital foundation for developing Northern Ireland’s economy,” Barrett said.

The Intel Computer Clubhouse, supported by the West Belfast Partnership Board and the Greater Shankill Partnership, is located in an inner-city area that crosses Belfast’s nationalist and loyalist communities. The Clubhouse’s two sites are on Shankill Road and Springfield Road to take into account the area’s unique situation.

“An objective of establishing an Intel Computer Clubhouse in Belfast was to serve the young people in both communities,” Barrett said. “The use of technology provides a powerful learning experience, allowing members of both clubhouses to develop their skills which will open future personal and professional opportunities.”

In addition to the Computer Clubhouse, Intel has other education initiatives in place in Northern Ireland, including science fair sponsorships and employment of 100 university interns each year.

Intel spends more than US$100 million per year worldwide to promote science, engineering and math education and to bring 21st century learning skills to children.
