INTEL SIGNS UP FOR TO TACKLE HIGH ENERGY USAGE

June 15, 2006

Intel Ireland, along with nine other leading Irish firms, signed up to an Energy Agreements programme, devised by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) which ensures a fundamental undertaking to review energy usage and the systematic implementation of effective energy management. It is estimated that Intel, along with the nine other companies, are expected to save up to €20 million over the next three years.

The prestigious event took place in Dublin Castle with Noel Dempsey T.D., Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources officially launching the event. Other companies that have signed up to the exciting new agreement include Xerox and Heinz. In addition to Intel, it is expected that the programme will be expanded to incorporate a further 40 top Irish companies and SEI estimate that this could save up to €50 million over a three year period.

Noel Dempsey spoke of the significance of the participation of the companies, “The ten companies signing up to the programme today set an excellent example to all sectors. Society as a whole will reap the benefits which accrue from the combined activities of these organisations. In particular, the individual consumer will benefit from the maintenance of their competitiveness. I am right behind the effort of these companies and encourage all major industrial energy users to come aboard.”

Deborah Brennan, Corporate Services manager for Intel Ireland was interviewed on the day of the launch, “Over the past few years at Intel we have focused on energy conservation and as a result I have seen our energy efficiency greatly improve on the site. I see this agreement as the logical next step in our quest for excellence in energy management and we are delighted that Intel had the opportunity to participate in the energy agreements programme. Reducing energy is one our key environmental programmes.”
