INTEL WINS AWARD FROM BLANCHARDSTOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Intel won the ‘Youth Work’ award at the annual Blanchardstown Chamber of Commerce President’s Gala Ball last weekend. Intel was presented with this award for the Intel Computer Clubhouse located in Blanchardstown village and run in conjunction with Foroige.
The Intel Computer Clubhouse initiative is an after-school centre which provides the young people in the area with access to a range of high end computer software and hardware including professional film making equipment and a recording studio. The Blanchardstown clubhouse belongs to a global network of clubhouses which aim to provide the young people with the tools and skills necessary for personal and professional successes.
Gerry Nolan, Intel Education Specialist collected the award on Intel’s behalf, “I am thrilled to accept this award on behalf of Intel. The Computer Clubhouses provide a safe a learning environment for local youngsters where they can explore their own interests and become confident learners through the use of technology. We are very proud of our relationship with our local communities are delighted to be recognised in this way.”
Local community groups were invited to nominate businesses who had supported their activities in any one of six categories. The categories were Education; Environmental; Improvement; Sports; Youth Work; Arts and Culture and Community. The large volume of entries was assessed by a panel of adjudicators from Blanchardstown Chamber and Fingal County Council. The winners were presented with specially produced Tipperary Crystal vases.
The Blanchardstown Chambers of Commerce President’s Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility were established in 2005 to recognise the work being carried out in the area by small, medium and large Irish businesses and to enhance the civic environment in which they operate. At the awards Hugh O’Byrne, President of the Chamber spoke to a capacity audience giving an overview of the chamber and its strong involvements in all aspects of local business development in the area. Referring to the Business in the Community Awards Mr. O’Byrne explained why “as an organisation representing local businesses we see the importance of acknowledging the mutual benefit that flows from the co-operation that takes place in our area between businesses and the local community.”
