Promoting Connections to the World
Information and communications technology (ICT) is continuing to see major growth in cities around the world. Yet a majority of small communities and remote villages don't have access to electricity, let alone broadband Internet.
With the onslaught of wireless broadband communication technologies like WiMAX, Wi-Fi, and 3G Wireless WAN, Intel in collaboration with local governments is connecting more people in more places than ever before—no matter how remote.
Intel is helping developing countries establish wireless infrastructure so that all people can benefit from the Internet. In Egypt, Intel donated equipment to install a state-of-the-art WiMAX network connecting two public schools, a health care center, and government offices. We also established the first public WiMAX networks in India and in the rural Amazon.
- Connecting people and bridging the digital divide. More than 300 WiMAX trials are in progress worldwide. Intel continues to work with governments and telecommunications agencies to provide low-cost broadband Internet access to communities that were previously impossible to serve.
- Creating big change at a silicon level. The Intel® WiMAX silicon solution enables low-cost broadband Internet access to the remotest of areas of the world creating more connections to more people every day.
- More options, more connections, more progress. Wi-Fi. 3G. WiMAX. Intel is developing mobile PCs with a broad range of connectivity options so more people can connect in more places worldwide.
Inspiring change, inviting collaboration
Intel believes that the PC and the Internet should be accessible to everyone. With imagination, collaboration, and innovation, we can change the world and bridge the digital divide.
